The Oregon Maritime Museum relies on volunteers to accomplish its mission of encouraging an interest in the educational programs and restoration work that sustain the maritime heritage of the Portland area. How would you like to help?

Volunteer Opportunities

COLLECTIONS Volunteers help organize and digitize the museum's vast collection.

CREW restores, maintains and operates the Steamer Portland. Positions are limited and some require special maritime certifications.

DOCENTS share the history of Portland through the story of the river and leading visitors on tours of the Steamer Portland.

FRONT DESKERS are experienced OMM Docents who are cross trained to greet and orient visitors as well as collect admission or make store sales.

INTERNS are students who volunteer in optional or for-credit activities. Internships will be tailored to each student's schedule, interests, and goals.

MARKETING VOLUNTEERS work with online and traditional media to promote the museum and communicate the museum's message using writing, design, or graphics skills.

OFFICE ASSISTANTS help with the general administrative work, including membership paperwork.

SPECIAL EVENTS volunteers work special events on and off the Steamer PORTLAND. For Example: staff a table at regional fairs, help with family day aboard the Steamer, and assist during Steamer rentals.

Once you have completed 3 training shifts (about 15 hours), a review will be scheduled for discussion and assessment. This is a time for you to offer formal feedback and for the museum to review your fit with the organization. However, volunteer status may be terminated at any time for failure to comply with the policies and proceadures of the Oregon Maritime Museum (OMM), including those of the volunteer program, or when in the judgement of the organization continued service as a volunteer would be contrary to it's best interest.

RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS

I recognise and acknowledge that by participating in OMM's volunteer program, I may be at risk of physical injury and I agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, damages, or losses, which I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with the volunteer program. I agree to release and hold harmless OMM, it's agents, employees, and volunteers from all damages, judgements, expenses (including attorney fees), costs, or liabilities suffered die to injury or damage to property that may arise out of or as a consequence of any volunteer work I may perform. If I am injured while performing volunteer work on museum property, and I am unable to give consent for treatment, I give OMM and their agents permission to obtain treatment. If there is a charge for treatment, I will pay for the treatment and indemnify and hold the museum harmless.

PHOTO RELEASE

OMM and any of it's partner organizations may use my likeness in any brochures, interpretation, or informational materials that will be used to promote OMM and it's programs, including images posted to it's website and other online resources.
